Fall Fashion Trends I’m Loving for 2019

Fall has always been my favorite season for fashion trends. After wearing as little as possible to escape the summer heat, I love transitioning to sweaters, boots, and all the jackets you can layer. Not to mention the color palette… rich brown, burgundy, warm yellow, and forest green paired with gold accents. *chef’s kiss*

I would label my style as “trendy minimalist” because I like my clothes fairly neutral but accessorize with interesting jewelry, patterns, shapes, or shoes. Essentially, I don’t fill my closet with all the latest trends; rather, I have a foundation of classic pieces that I mix with small doses of what’s trending.

Doing this allows me to avoid spending lots of money on temporarily fashionable clothing that will only be donated the next year. If I’m looking to purchase a certain item of clothing (ie. a midi skirt), I’ll always try shopping at thrift stores first and then look at major retailers later. Not only is this good for my wallet, but good for the environment!

Enough chit-chat, here are some items I’m currently looking to add to my fall wardrobe:

Midi Skirts

To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of skirts. They don’t seem to flatter my body well and are uncomfortable to wear. However, that’s probably because I’m used to wearing skirts only for social events, which more times than not are mini skirts.

Midi skirts, on the other hand, come down to around your shins and provide much more movement. I’ve been spotting these everywhere and find that they’re typically paired with casual pieces like t-shirts and sneakers. I love this look because you get both femininity and comfort, and comfort is always my no. 1 priority.

This animal printed skirt has been all over Instagram and I’m living for it. The skirt itself is a statement, so it’s easy to pair with basic pieces to create an effortless outfit. Other styles I’ve seen are midi skirts with slits, polka-dots, or made of satin. All can be dressed up or down and are great options as we transition to fall!

Blazers

I’ve always admired blazers when I was younger, but unfortunately, my baby-face and undefined style did not support them. Now, because I wear *grown-up* clothes, I love layering blazers over casual outfits (like jeans and a t-shirt) to give me that boss babe energy.

Your life could be falling apart, but put on a blazer and you look like you have everything together (and then some). I have a plaid blazer like the first picture above, but after seeing that all black one I think I’m going to need to make more room in my closet.

Slip Dresses

Just like midi skirts, slip dresses have been catching my eye because they are elegant but can be dressed down with casual pieces. The silk or satin material adds texture to an outfit as it loosely drapes over whatever you’re wearing.

Long sleeves and tights can be worn underneath a slip dress to make it more seasonally appropriate. I have also seen sweaters and cardigans layered over top, making the dress look almost like a midi skirt – multipurpose!

Chunky Jewelry

Dainty jewelry has been the trend for a while now, and it definitely my favorite way to accessorize. However, larger statement pieces have been making their way into my collection. Because my style is pretty minimal, jewelry is how I like to add interest to my outfits and feel more put-together.

I recommend thrifting for jewelry! I’ve recently been thrifting all of my jewelry and finding some really interesting pieces for only $2-3. Doing this leaves you with a unique collection of items you’d never think to look for in a retail store.

Animal Print

Animal print is back in style and my middle-school self is living for it. The most popular prints I’ve seen are cheetah and snakeskin, which I think are the easiest to style because of their neutral colors. I can’t quite commit to an entirely cheetah-print shirt or pants yet, so I’ve been sneaking small pops of animal print into my wardrobe via accessories.

Hey Reese! I wrote in one of my blog post about prints and midi skirts too.
I actually used to not love animal-printed clothes when I was younger, especially in middle school, but growing up I learned how to wear animal-printed clothes without looking “tacky” and enjoyed wearing them gradually.
Midi skirts, on the other hand, have always been my favorite but never actually wore because I thought they didn’t fit me thinking that skirts of that length aren’t great on 5’5” girls, but this time I’ll try and see how it goes.
By the way, great blog post!
